La Quinta Rugby Football Club was founded by original head coach Brian Ansley and 20 young men intent on beginning a tradition in 2004.  The club remains the only rugby club at any level in the Coachella Valley and has established a tradition of sportsmanship, athletecism, friendship, and excellence on the field and in the classroom.

LQRFC has previously competed in the Southern California Youth Rugby League at the U-19 and U-16 club level and at the high school varsity and junior varsity level.  LQRFC's top 22 have lined up against the very best in Southern California and are always willing to take on any team, any where.

LQRFC members and alumni have gone on to play rugby at both the collegiate and senior levels and have earned the opportunity to represent Southern California and the United States in international competiion.  Other alumni have transitioned into other sports, earning scholarships and walkon opportunities to play American football at collegiate level.
In 2010, the doors of LQRFC were brought down as a huge number of female LQHS students petitioned for their own team.  Then assistant coach Errol Wilson accepted the opportunity to expand the club and, after a short selection process, accepted 26 young women to begin the La Quinta Women's Rugby Football Club..
In the beginning, the club was more loosly assosiated with La Quinta High School and adopted a different name and mascot.  From the inagural 2005 season until 2007 the club was known as the Outlaws.  Today the club has melded more closely with La Quinta High and has embraced the Blackhawk mascot.
